SMOKING
One of the ways numerous youth of today overcome mood and anxiety disorders as well as other mental challenges is by smoking.
Smoking cigarette, cocaine, marijuana, Tobacco would have devastating consequences on health.
Pregnant mother who smokes, or exposed to smoke of any of these substances, especially in the first trimester, may give birth to babies with deformities such as clubfoot, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and many more.
Furthermore, Smoking delays healing process. Person who smokes may have delay in healing. Wounds of smokers do not heal as early as possible. The nicotine, as a component of the tobacco may inhibit the synthesis of collagen.
Collagen is laid down in excess at wound site to facilitate the healing of such wound.
When the synthesis is now altered, then prolonged healing process may occur.
Smoking may also have effect on the circulatory system.
Blood vessel may be blocked due to the toxins produced in the body in the form of solid or plaques. This may be deposited into an artery that supplies the brain with blood and may result in a complete stroke(Ischemic stroke).
Medically, smoking has a great impact on the lungs, liver and other organs, by limiting the function of these organs.
Smoking can cause pneumonia, liver cirrhosis, and other life threatening conditions.
Many people have become addicted to smoking, trying to stop but such is not happening. Such personalities should see specialist to teach them how they can be out of smoking.
Smoking increases susceptibility to diseases and may prolong treatment times.
Many mentally ill persons in Ghana today such as schizophrenia may be due to the effect of smoking.
There are so many personalities who are mad, of which their history proved they were involved in smoking.
Smoking may have impact on sex life.
It may reduce the fertility of man and woman, which may result in childlessness.
Too much smoking of stimulant substance such as cigarettes, tobacco, cocaine and others may result in oligospermia, erectile dysfunction and impotence.
Avoid close contact in areas of exposure to the smoke of these substances.
You may have more effect than the person smoking, should you be close to the person
