Stroke is now common in people as young as twenty years; Lifestyle changes to limiting this prevalence and incidence

ALCOHOLISM AND STROKE
Alcohol consumption is becoming rampant in  most developing countries, including Ghana.
Most of the youth today are into alcoholism.
The reason as to why many youth are involved into alcoholism is yet to be known. According to some youth, alcohol is used to overcome anxiety and other mental disorders.
The sad aspect is that, these personalities becomes blindfolded on the sequel of alcohol on the human health.

SEQUEL OF ALCOHOLISM
Alcoholism increase one's risk of developing stroke.
Today many people as young as twenty years old are attacked by stroke.
Many youth engage in alcoholism and excessive smoking, excessive consumption of junk foods, all contribute to the increased incidence of stroke in the youthful days.

When alcohol is taken into the body, toxins are generated in the body.
These toxins are solid substances which the body finds it difficult to secret and may be deposited into a major blood vessel which supply the brain with blood.
When this happens, the thrombus (solid deposit)  tends to block the blood vessels and prevent blood from reaching the brain.
As a result, cells of the part of the brain the blood vessel supplies dies up completely resulting in weakness in the contralateral side of the body(Ischemic STROKE).
Alcohol can increase your risk of  stroke.
Limiting the intake of alcohol and substituting fruit drinks, and other non alcoholic beverages would rather be  beneficial to the human health.
Alcohol does not only increase the risk of getting stroke, it has great impact on major organs such as the heart, liver, kidney, and the immune system.
People into alcoholism are susceptible to diseases due to weak immune system.

Preventive measures against stroke are;

  • Eating foods low in saturated salt
  • Drinking alcohol in moderation or avoiding it totally
  • Managing body weight
  • Regular daily exercising
  • Eating more fruits and vegetables
  • Taking medication well when you are diabetic or hypertensive patient
  • Avoid too much intake of fatty foods
