ST. JOHN OF GOD COLLEGE OF HEALTH, formerly called Physiotherapy and Orthotics training school is located in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North municipality within the Ahafo region of Ghana.

The school was established in 2009 by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Goaso   with certificate qualification and then upgraded to diploma qualification in 2013.

The school is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, and the  only school in the Francophone country offering diploma in physiotherapy.

It has trained batches of students who were graduated with the certificate qualification and are working in various hospitals now in Ghana.

Aside, these batches with the certificate qualification, there are other four batches with diploma qualification and out of these four batches just the a single batch (diploma 1 batch) has been employed by the government in 2019.
The rest are of the batches are still not employed; Diploma 1,2,3,4,5, are specifically not employed yet.
Being the only school offering diploma in physiotherapy in the Francophone country, physiotherapy and Orthotics training school lacks infrastructure facilities.

One of the Health institutions in the municipality with poor road.
The Presbyterian Midwife Nursing Training in the same town and closest school has no problem with roads.

Due to the bad road the school has, it always becomes difficult to assess the school when it rains heavily.
This has detrimental consequences over lectures because lecturers feel reluctant coming with their cars since the road and the entire compound of the school become very muddy after every heavy rain.
Students also feel same reluctant attending lectures after heavy rains.

Aside, the bad roads and the inadequate infrastructure facilities, one of the burdens of the institution is the lack of Sanitary facility.

Although the female students have been provided with modernized toilet facility within the just completed abandoned hostel, the guys hostel still uses "pit latrine".

One of the disadvantages of this pit latrine is that, the personality has to wash down, as  the smell soak their uniforms after visiting the toilet and the issue of breeds of dangerous reptiles like snake which put their lives in danger.

The inadequate infrastructure facilities has cost the school much on accommodation over years ago because the school had to hire hostel from the community to accommodate the admitted Students.

The Ghana National Petroleum Company, GNPC came to the aid of the school in 2019 to construct a storey building block with about 10 rooms which now accommodates male students whilst the authority of the school also completed an old abandoned block which now accommodates the female students.
As i speak there is ongoing construction of toilet facility for the guys by the GNPC.

As a matter of fact these hostels have cancelled the problem of  scattered hostels which remained a challenge for the school some years back and now all the students are living on campus.

The school authority is really putting up extraordinary efforts to addressing some of these challenges but still needs support from the government, NGOs, Individuals and other Cooperate bodies to come to its aid.

Adding to the importance of the school,
The school has  introduced an orthopedic course in 2019
This course would help train students who would become orthopaedic technicians to assist in some basic musculoskeletal cases such as fractures that would also help reduce the increased rate of fracture cases not only in the vicinity but also in  the entire country at  large and reduce the workload of the orthopaedic Surgeons.

In view of the newly introduced course, adequate lecture halls are needed to run this course with huge number of students since it admitted just 20 students for the orthopaedic course, all because of inadequate infrastructure facility.

The school also needs a modern Library,  Administration block, Orthopaedic &Physiotherapy lab, internet Access  School park, and Tarred road among others.

The school appreciates the effort of the Ghana National Petroleum Company, GNPC a lot and still appeals for their endless support in other projects underway

The Principal of the school Mr. Frederick Nkoom Dankwah,  and the entire SRC board, therefore Pleads on the Government, NGOS, Individuals and other cooperate bodies to come to the aid of the school in the provision of some of these facilities the school is lacking.
